Dissertation project

I study the use of punctuation in (some works of) contemporary Swedish fictional prose. Punctuation has the potential to structure, articulate and visualize the verbal; as Malcolm Parkes said, it is "the pragmatics of the written medium". My dissertation will be based on a qualitative stylistic analysis of three contemporary novels, all of them acknowledged for their striking use of punctuation.

Research fields of interest are literary stylistics, cognitive poetics, narratology, literacy, etc.
